Program of the event:

 

11.30 am meeting at the Palace at El Seyifiah Street, which is off Saliba Street and the Ibn Tulun Mosque.

12.00 noon Brunch

2.00 pm display of traditional costumes of the Egyptian country side, deserts and oasis by Mrs. Shahira Mehrez.

3.30 pm Visit of the Amir Taz Palace.

Up to the mid 20th century, women in the Egyptian countryside, desert and oasis were still wearing distinctive traditional clothes that varied from region to region. Each village or group of villages within a particular area had its own interpretation of the common archetype. Dress decoration and accessories also varied according to women’s age and marital status, as well as to the occasion for which they were  made. Ultimately the repertory of regional attire was impressive in its beauty, creativeness and diversity. Today most of these costumes have become obsolete….

The costumes to be displayed are part of the collection of Mrs. Shahira Mehrez who, for some 40 years, has been researching, collecting and promoting Traditional Egyptian crafts. They have been exhibited in Egypt, Kuwait, France, Italy, Spain and the United States in cultural centers and museums, as well as presented to the public in live shows.

The purpose of this performance is twofold; the first is to raise funds for the association of the friends of Manial Palace Museum. The second is to remind the public of refined ways of dressing, elaborated over centuries, mirroring the sophistication of the culture of our countryside, desert and oasis.

 

 

 

حتى أواسط القرن العشرين كانت النساء في ريف مصر والواحات والصحاري مازلن يرتدين ملابس تقليدية مميزة تختلف من منطقة إلى أخرى، كل قرية أو مجموعة من القرى التي تنتمي إلى منطقة معينة كانت لها رؤية مشتركة للطراز البدائي. تزيين الملابس وأكسسوارتها كانت أيضاً تتنوع تبعاً لعمر المرأة ووضعها الاجتماعي، بالإضافة إلى المناسبات التي صنعت من أجلها هذه الملابس.

في النهاية، نجد مجموعة الملابس المزخرفة مبهرة من حيث الجمال، والإبداع، والتنوع، أما اليوم فلقد انحصرت هذه الملابس ولم تعد تستعمل كما كانت في الماضي.

الملابس التقليدية التي ستعرض هي جزء من مجموعة السيدة شهيرة محرز التي (منذ أربعين عاماً) كانت تجمع وتبحث وتشجع صناعة الملابس المصرية التقليدية، وهذه الملابس قد تم عرضها في مصـر – الكـويت – فرنسـا – إيطـاليا – إسبانيا – الولايـات المتحـدة الأمريكيـة في المراكز الثقافية، والمتاحف، بالإضافة إلى تقديمها في عروض مفتوحة للعامة.

 

ولهذا العرض سببان:

الأول: جمع التبرعات لجمعية أصدقاء متحف قصر المنيل.

الثاني: لكي نذكر الجماهير بطريقة الملبس المميزة التي أتقنت على مدى قرون، عاكسة ذوقاً حضارياًُ للريف والصحاري والواحات المصرية.
