Friends of Manial Palace Museum

We hope that you have all enjoyed a pleasant summer. Your Board and some of our Committees have remained active during this period and here is a brief report:

Board:

Abbas Hilmi, Mohamed Shaker and Mohamed Hassouna met with Dr. Zahi Hawas and reviewed the proposed activities of FMPM.

Dr. Zahi was extremely encouraging and appointed a liaison officer in charge of day to day communication between the Supreme Council of Antiquities and our Association.

Garden Committee:

Nejla El Maghrabi, Malak Badrawi, Myriam Bakhoum, Lyn Younes, Mediha and Abbas Hilmi visited the gardens and made some suggestions which were well received and implemented.

Mr. Ayman Abdel Moniem made plans and lists of plants available to the committee which is now studying these documents.

Premises Committee:

Ihab Chafic, Assad Nadim, Mediha and Abbas Hilmi visited the restoration work in progress and were on the whole very satisfied by the quality of the finished product in the so called “Throne Room” and “Golden Hall”.

The Committee is now trying to contribute to the next phase of the restoration plan.

Book committee:

Nelly Hanna has again visited the library and is trying to work out ways of implementing our previous recommendations.

Forthcoming event:

We are planning an Iftar in the “Golden Hall” on Sunday October 1^st, 2006.

This should be a memorable event, being our first gathering at Manial Palace. We hope that Minister Farouk Hosny, Dr. Zahi Hawas and Mr. Ayman Abdel Moniem might be among us and that the latter will give a short description of the restoration work at Manial Palace Museum.

We will circulate our members with more information when this is available.

We all look forward to an active second half of the year.
