Draft Cultural Program for the second half of 2007

September Sunday 2: Visit to Shubra Palace: a) 6 pm: Michaelangelo Lupo, an expert on the paintings of the palace, their provenance and significance, will take us around the Palace. b) 7 pm: Refreshments. c) 7.30 pm: Lecture by Mohamed Abul Amayem on the development of the Shubra district and the Palace in particular. The lecture will be in Arabic. Saturday 8: Visit to Afifi district: 9.30 am: A coach will leave the Marriott Gizira car park. Architect Jaroslaw Dobrowlska will lead visits to the mosque of Sultan Farag Ibn Barkouk, Sultan El Ashraf Barsbay and the Sultan Kait Bay complex. We will then visit the Khedive Tewfik Mausoleum better known as “Qubbet Effendina”, where lies Prince Mohamed Ali Tewfik. This visit will be led by architect Agnieszka Dobrowlska who is in charge the restoration of the mausoleum. Refreshments will be served in the gardens. Thursday 20: Iftar at Manial Palace Gardens. a) Religious songs. b) Presentation of Honorary Membership to H.E. the Culture Minister and Dr. Zahi Hawas. c) Oud Concert by the great artist Nasir Shama. (to be confirmed) d) Annual general meeting of our Association. From Sunday 30 to Thursday 4: Iftar and a Soufi prayer meeting by the Nakshabandi School followed by a lecture on Islamic architecture by architect Ahmed Hamid. (to be confirmed). October Sunday 21: Supreme Council of Antiquities in Zamalek, a lecture by Mrs. Shahira Mehrez on traditional costumes of the Egyptian country side, deserts and oasis. (to be confirmed) Saturday 26: Emir Taz Palace, lunch and display of traditional costumes of the Egyptian country side, deserts and oasis. November Saturday 3- 11 am: Visit of Beit El Suheimy followed by lectures by Dr. Assad Nadim and Dr. Nawal El Misiri then light refreshments and cakes. Recommended access is through Bab El Fetouh or Bab El Nasr. Friday 9: Concert at the Golden Room in Manial Palace on the occasion of the Birthday of Prince Mohamed Ali Tewfik. (to be confirmed). Friday 16 to Saturday 17: Trip to Alexandria in order to visit: a) The Mahmoud Said Museum. b) The Antoniadis Palace where we will be taken by Dr. Mohamed Awad who is in charge of its restoration. c) New archeological discoveries in Abu Keir. On this occasion we will also celebrate the anniversary of the opening of the Suez Canal in 1869. December Saturday 1^st: Visit to the Opera, under the guidance of the Chairman of our Events Committee and the great artist Hassan Kamy. We might then attend a performance at the Opera depending on the program. Wednesday 19 to Saturday 22: Visit to the Oasis of Siwa on the occasion of Eid El Adha holiday. If the numbers permit, we will go and return by private air charter, take Mrs. Mary Megally with us to give us an insight on the rich bird life and enjoy several desert trips.

سبتمبر الأحد 2: زيارة قصر شبرا: أ) الساعة 6 مساءً: مايكل أنجيلو لوبو، خبير فى اللوحات فى القصر، أصلهم ومعناهم، سيأخذنا فى جولة داخل القصر. ب) الساعة 7 مساءً: مشروبات ومأكولات خفيفة. ت) الساعة 7.30 مساءً: محاضرة للسيد/محمد أبو العمايم عن تطوير حى شبرا وخاصة القصر. المحاضرة باللغة العربية. السبت 8: زيارة لحى العفيفى: الساعة 9.30 صباحاُ: أوتوبيس يترك موقف سيارات فندق ماريوت الجزيرة. سيتولى قيادة الزيارة المهندس ياروسلاف دبرولسكى بداية من مسجد السلطان فرج بن برقوق ثم مسجد السلطان الأشرف بارباى ثم مجموعة مبانى قايتباى. وبعد ذلك سنقوم بزيارة ضريح الخديوى توفيق المسمى بإسم "قبة أفندينا"، التى تضم مقبرة الأمير/محمد على توفيق، تحت اشراف المهندسة/أجنيسكا دبرولسكا المسئولة عن ترميم الضريح. وسنقدم مشروبات ومأكولات خفيفة بعد ذلك فى الحديقة. الخميس 20: إفطار فى حدائق قصر المنيل. أ) أناشيد دينية. ب) تقديم عضوية شرفية لكل من معالى السيد وزير الثقافة والسيد الدكتور زاهى حواس. ت) عزف العود من الفنان الكبير نصير شمة. (لم يؤكد بعد) ث) إجتماع الجمعية العمومية للجمعية. من الأحد 30 حتى الخميس 4: إفطار وعبادات صوفية للطريقة النقشبندية ثم محاضرة عن المعمار الاسلامى من طرف المهندس/أحمد حامد. (لم يؤكد بعد). أكتوبر الأحد 21: فى مقر المجلس الأعلى للآثار بالزمالك. محاضرة من طرف السيدة/شهيرة محرز عن الملابس التقليدية للأرياف المصرية الصحراوية وللواحات. (لم يؤكد بعد). السبت 26: قصر الأمير طاز. غذاء ثم عرض للملابس التقليدية للأرياف المصرية الصحراوية وللواحات. نوفمبر السبت 3: الساعة 11 صباحاً: زيارة لبيت السحيمى ثم محاضرتان للدكتور/أسعد نديم والدكتورة نوال المسيرى ثم مشروبات ومأكولات خفيفة. نقترح الوصول عن طريق باب الفتوح أو باب النصر. الجمعة 9: حفلة موسيقية فى القاعة الذهبية بقصر المنيل بمناسبة ذكرى ميلاد الأمير محمد على توفيق. (لم يؤكد بعد). من الجمعة 16 حتى السبت 17: زيارة للإسكندرية لزيارة: أ) متحف محمود سعيد. ب) قصر أنتونياديس تحت إشراف السيد الدكتور/محمد عوض المسئول عن ترميم القصر. ت) إكتشافات جديدة لآثار منطقة أبو قير. فى هذه المناسبة سنحتفل أيضاً بعيد افتتاح قناة السويس فى 1869. ديسمبر السبت الأول: زيارة الأوبرا تحت اشراف رئيس لجنة المناسبات والفنان الكبير الأستاذ/حسن كامى. إحتمال أن نستمع الى حفلة موسيقية فى الأوبرا لو كان البرنامج مناسب. من الأربعاء 19 حتى السبت 22: زيارة لواحة سيوة بمناسبة أجازة عيد الأضحى المبارك. لو يسمح عدد المسافرين سيكون الذهاب والرجوع عن طريق طائرة خاصة. ستقوم السيدة/مارى مجلى بالارشاد فيما يخص الطيور المتنوعة الموجودة بالواحة وسنقوم بالعديد من الرحلات فى الصحراء.
