Luxor Visit

Preliminary Program

Thursday April 3, 2008

5 pm Coach leaves Marriott Gezira Tower car park for Cairo airport.

8 pm Take off on MS 201 to Luxor.

9.05 pm    Arrival in Luxor, met and transferred to the Winter Palace Hotel.

Friday April 4, 2008

9 am     Leave Winter Palace Hotel to visit Luxor temple and work undertaken by the University of Chicago.

11.15 am Proceed to the Chicago House residence courtyard for a half hour drinks reception.

12 noon Chicago House Library briefing.

12.45 pm Depart Chicago House.

Pm Free

5.30 pm    Tea on the Dahabiya of Mr. Alain Fouquet who used to be General Manager of the Manial Palace Hotel. Admire the sun set.

Boeming Cross the Nile on the Ferry Boat to have dinner at the King Tut restaurant on the West Bank.

Return across the Nile by sailing/motor boat.

Saturday April 5, 2008

9.30 am   Leave the Winter Palace Hotel to visit the documentation, conservation and restoration work done by the University of Chicago at Madinat Habu.

Lunch “Marsam Hotel” in Gourna run by Sayed son of the famous Sheikh Ali Abdul Rasoul.

Pm Visit the Hassan Fathi Center for architecture, arts and crafts set up by Dr. Nawal Hassan مركز حسن فتحى للعمارة والفنون والخزف.

Visit some tombs of the elders.

6 to 7 pm Return to Winter Palace in order to pick up our luggage and brush up.

7 pm Coach Leaves Winter Palace for Luxor airport.

8.25 pm    Take off on MS002 to Cairo.

9.35 pm    Arrival at Cairo airport, met and transferred by coach to Marriott Gezira Tower car park.

Members: in double room LE 2195, single room LE 2657

Non-members: in double room LE 2305, single room LE 2790

Above rates include:

- 2 nights accommodation at Winter Palace hotel on B/B basis.

- The plane tickets Cairo/Luxor/Cairo.

- Transportation (transfer from/to airport/hotel & 2 open days in Luxor).

- Cost of Feluca per two ways.

- Lunch and dinner on the West Bank
